Holiday Kutna Hora Pension Sedlec Kutnohorsko History :The history of Kutna Hora is closely linked with the mining of silver. At the turn of the 16th century, silver production in Germany grew substantially and huge amounts of silver also started to be imported from America. All this dealt yet another blow to Kutna Hora's mining. Attempts to restore an intensive mining activity were undertaken in the following centuries but most of them proved futile. At the start of World War II, the German occupational authorities started to mine lead and zinc here. The two metals then continued to be mined in Kutna Hora until 1991, when the very last mine was closed down. Nowadays, the town is not so important as it was in the era of its greatest bloom, but, thanks to the complex of more than three hundreds of protected historical monuments of medieval and baroque architecture, it represents a picturesque locality in the centre of Europe, which often becomes a place where many visitors from the whole world are coming. In December 1995, historical centre of the town, together with the St. Barbara´s Cathedral and the Church of Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Sedlec, were entered in the list of the world cultural heritage of humankind of UNESCO.
